Born with a visual disability, Peter finally learned to read while he was doing graduate work at Yale University. He decided that instead of taking a PhD, he would spend his life conducting research himself directly with people.

His focus was on learning how a person could discover their unique life passion and develop a deep understanding of both "who they are and how they fit into the world."

He noticed that in Blue Zone communities, people live their purpose by and through their neighborhood friendships.
